When Hot Topic clothing stores launched their line of full-figure fashions and store outlets called Torrid back in 2000, they publicized the happening with a nationwide contest offering my services as an artist as the grand prize. When the winner's portrait was completed, I approached Hot Topic with an idea to develop a team of ample-sized super heroines for an exclusive line of Torrid merchandising. The woman I had initially been working with during the contest thought it was a worthwhile pursuit and asked if I could show full
development of each character with tight pencil sketches, as well as a bit of written history to give even more dimension to this legion of ladies which I named
The Seven Deadly Curves. I gleefully obliged, but unfortunately the powers-that-be at Hot Topic/Torrid gave the concept a big fat thumbs down, although I was thrilled it took them a full two weeks to arrive at that decision.

So a few months ago I was rummaging through some old illustrations and came upon my giant folder of Deadly Curves pencil drawings. My heart skipped a beat and I realized I had fallen deeply and madly for these unfinished Mona Lisas. I thought it would be fun to see these drawings taken to the final stage of ink and color. And that's why we're here now.
