In Other words, welcome to my latest artistic conquest

Dyani

"My husband, Neil, surprised me with my Toil Girl portrait for Christmas. It was an incredibly personal gift as, not only was it made just for me, but Neil put a lot of thought into the idea that he presented to Les. It is a dream of mine to one day visit the Angkor Wat temple complex in Cambodia and, to me, this picture represents all the dreams that Neil and I will continue to share and make come true together. Neil explained that he sees me as the strong woman in the picture, and knowing that he sees me that way brings me joy! It’s a gift to be truly seen and loved by someone, and it takes a real artistic talent to create a work of art that embodies that, so a big thanks to Les! The level of detail in the temple is fantastic, and I can tell a lot of care went into creating my picture.

About Me: I’m a social worker, and currently coordinating a program that offers support to people living with addictions and/or mental illness. I’m applying to pursue a Master’s Degree in education this year, and I’m incredibly thankful for all the support my husband and my two sons provide me with when it comes to working towards my goals; I couldn't do it without them. I have so much to be grateful for in my life, and it is the connections to others that mean the most to me. In the future, I have no doubt that I will travel with Neil and the boys to Cambodia to see the temples, and I think it would be a lot of fun to take a picture of me in a similar stance as the one in my Toil Girl portrait and to display the two beside each other!

Thanks to Les for bringing the temples to me until I can get there myself, and thanks to Neil to for knowing and loving me so well".

Dyani, you have no idea how much I anticipate receiving that photograph in my email box. I share your excitement about making that incredible journey. I've heard of Angkor Wat but I have to admit I've never laid eyes on the place before receiving Neil's email. It's an absolute overwhelming sensation to the eyes--literally. When I first received his photos, I sat staring at my monitor trying to understand what was before me. Yet another unexplainable feat of determination from humankind.

Neil, it was great working with you on this Indiana Jones-esque endeavor. I'm always expressing how much I love to tackle a new and unusual portrait concept, and I have to assume I'm the first pin-up artist to have such an awe-inspiring piece of architecture as a backdrop. Hugs and thanks to both you and lovely Dayani for the assignment--and a special thanks to Dyani for taking the time to create this beautifully penned write-up.

This is one art job I can confidently say I left in ruins. Happy New Year all!
